Markers.

Shirt(underneath)//Crossroads ($4!!). Dress//Target. Sweater//H&M. Lip stain//Revlon JustBitten in Passion.

I have a new obsession. Lip stains. I got this one in my stocking and it hasn't left my purse since. When I was little, I always wondered what it would have felt like to use a marker as lipstick, since lipstick was banned from my lips until the sixth grade. It seems like it would have worked pretty well.  It's probably a good thing I didn't ever try it though because it probably would have turned my lips green or something.

Well now that I'm older I know what it feels like to use a marker on my lips! And it's the greatest! So it's not really a marker but I bet in a pinch it would suffice as one. What I am trying to say here is that it is fantastic. it feels cool to put on, it stays all day and is a wicked color. Go buy some. I'll certainly will be getting me self more. (That was intentional, yes).

Have scarf, be happy

Dress//Target. Scarf//Thrifted. Sweater//Target. Tights//Probably Target (I'm seeing a pattern here...) Shoes//Payless. Lipstick (which I probably should have reapplied...)//Russian Red by MAC

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know about me and silk scarves. Basically, we get along really well. They are  the butter to my Paula Deen. And you know the worst part? None of the thrift stores here sell silk scarves. I don't know what it is. Do people here just hold onto their scarves for ever and ever? Is there an unspoken silk scarf hoarding problem in the state of Utah? Whatever it is, I am facing withdrawls. So, if you find a fabulous scarf somewhere, you can send it to the address below.
Ha! Just kidding. Well, about the address below part...I'll still take your scarves.

Ps. This summer, I partook in a scarf exchange. I got a lovely scarf from my partner. And hers is still sitting on my desk. So if you happen to read this blog still and don't hate my guts, please shoot me an email so I can finally get it to you. (It's really cute!) shelby (dot) hintze (at) live (dot) com

What I Wore: Bows and Stuff

(the skirt looks kinda dirty here but Mom, I promise it is just the lighting)
 Sweater//hand-me-down from Katie. Sweater vest// AE from forever ago. Skirt//Urban Outfitters.Tights//Target? Shoes//Target.

After I bought this skirt, Urban Outfitters clearance made my Greatest-Thing-Ever short list. I had been eyeing it (and an awesome lace dress that I bought at the same time) for awhile. However, $50 for a simple cotton skirt is just not in my price range. $20 though? That I can do.

Do you have any sweet clearance stories?

What I Wore: Study Date

Over MLK Day weekend, I had a date. Ok, well it was a study date  but a date none the less. So I decided to see what my hair would like curly. Sunday night, we braided it and then let the braids work their magic over night. Well, what turned out wasn't quite magic. Instead, I looked like Carrot Top's estranged sister. So, we rebraided and got it up into a pretty, almost Victorian looking 'do. These pictures were taken later in the day after it had started to fall out but you get the idea.

Now, about that date. So, he is really tall. Some would even say he is 5 stories tall. He is named after an important person in Mormon history. He is super smart and is an expert in lots of different areas, like Asian Studies, Family History and even Children's Literature. His name is the Harold B. Lee Library. We have been hanging out a lot so I'll let you know how it goes. Ring by Spring!!

What I Wore: Swoosh! Cecil! (Note: this post is in no way related to BYU Basketball)

Shirt (underneath)//Atlas Vintage. Sweater//Target. Pants//Nordstrom BP. Boots//Forever 21. Arm warmers//Target. Bag//Forever 21.

Guys. It got cold all of the sudden. What the heck. The last few days were so stinking warm! Like, 50 degrees warm (don't laugh at me, you SoCal readers. Yeah, that's right. I just called it SoCal.) Anyways, it's cold. But no snow. My one dream in life is for it to snow SO much that BYU cancels school and we get stuck in our apartment with all of our friends for a few days. Considering no one can remember the last time BYU actually cancelled an entire day of classes, I think I'll just keep on dreaming.

On a related note, is it illegal to spray down all the major roads into campus with a hose at freezing temperatures? If so, how long would one go to jail...?

Cecil, calm down. I'm only kidding.

EDIT: Don't know who Cecil is? You're missing out! See {here} and {here}

What I Wore: Gene Kelly (Green)

 Shirt//Vintage Esprit (Mom's!). Sweater//H&M. Belt//Forever 21. Pants//Target.

Last year, I wanted all things mustard. Mustard sweaters, mustard skirts, mustard shoes, mustard bags, mustard mustard. Wait, what? I don't even like mustard mustard! Ketchup, mayo, ranch and BBQ sauce are my condiments of choice. Anyways, this year. I want everything kelly green. (see above list. except for kelly green mustard. gross). Lucky for me, my hunger is beginning to be fed. Read: these pants. (Thanks Santa!). Doubly lucky for me: kelly green and mustard look good together! Woot!

Do you have any colors you're lusting after this season? (and I mean lust in the most appropriate way.)

Swoon for Wu

I have a lot of clothes, I'll admit. I do wear most of my closet but what do I REALLY need?

So I had this fantastic idea a few weeks ago.

What if....What if I didn't buy any new clothes for the rest of the year? Ok, maybe for the next six months.

I hadn't completely decided but it was a thought.

And the Jason Wu for Target happened.

Seriously?
SERIOUSLY?!

I saw the lookbook and I completely forgot about my little plan.

Maybe after February 5th...
Here are my favorite looks!

Wanna place bets as to how fast this will sell out and end up on eBay for $500,000,000?

What I wore: foxy

Sweater//UO. Dress//Moksha. Tights//Target. Boots//Forever 21.

I got this awesome dress for my birthday from a little shop in Seattle called Moksha. Most of the pieces are vintage pieces that have been altered for a more modern silhouette (shortened, elastic in the waist etc). It is so great and it's right on The Ave in the university district. So all my University of Washington peeps, go check it out!

A place to rest your head.

So. I just realized, I never showed you guys pictures of my new flat (too pretentious? Ok, apartment)! Here are some pictures of my room. It's slightly more ehhh how do you say? Lived in? now but it's a cozy place. The rest of my apartment isn't super exciting (ok, except for our sweet "Christmas" lights) but maybe I'll put up some pictures of the rest of my pad as well.

Quilt, heart garland and monster made by mom. Print by Elsie Flanigan (now Larson). Frames from Ikea painted by me. Embroidered tree by me. Thrifted owl. Sock monkey collection.

Various lawn gnomes, owls, Lalaloopsy dolls (I really need some kids so I don't feel as weird buying them but they are just soooooo cute!). Books. Scrapbooks. South lake Union poster from Seattle Met magazine.

Closet (strangest designed closet I've ever seen). Dresser with silk scarves hanging on the side. Makeup in Ikea baskets. Deer head ring holder see {here}. Jewelery box from the thrift store that we painted and put new fabric in.

Paper lanterns were my mom's! "You are an original" print from Target. Watermill embroidery from the thrift store. CTR embroidery by me. Washington State print from {LivyLoveDesigns. Mirror from the dollar store. Print from.....ah! I can't remember! I got it at Urban Craft Uprising in Seattle. And last but not least, Hurricane Ridge print from....wait for it....REI! My brother and dad were getting some camping equipment and they had a series of vintage national park posters! I saw it and knew it had to be mine. I mean, it's a whole lot cheaper then a backpacking backpack!
